Nadine
Nadine {aka: Naders}
DOB: 8-2-2017
Gotcha Day 12-2-20
Nadine, or Naders, as she is so affectionately called, joined SOS Donkey Haven in December 2020. She was born in 2017 and grew up as part of the beloved Oatman herd in Oatman, AZ.
Unfortunately, when she was under 2 years of age, she became pregnant by a wild jack in town and gave birth to a small baby jack on July 5 th, 2019. He became famously known as “Walter, the Orphan Donkey” as momma Nadine was too young when she had him and did not know how to take care of him.
At just a few hours old, BLM {Bureau of Land Management asked Brad and Kelly Blake who live in town to adopt Walter, and Nadine went back to her donkey life in Oatman.
In late 2020, BLM did a Wild Burro Round Up which included many of the Oatman donkeys. Sadly, Naders was on the list to go. She, along with others were rounded up and taken to Florence to be put into the adoption program.
Tyler Toohey, an integral part of SOS, had always had a personal connection with Naders and wanted to adopt her once the adoption process began. He took ownership of Nadine and has loved and worked with her over the years to lead and pack train her.
Once Naders came to SOS, she thrived along with the other donkeys and bonded and became an adopted mother of sorts to Sally Fields, who was also rounded up from Oatman and adopted out. She was also a privately owned donkey who lived at SOS and has since moved to her permanent furever home.
Nadine is also lucky enough to live at SOS with her mother Destiny and Grandmother, Dusty, and her son Walter, when he visits from Oatman. It is truly an honor to have all four generations in one place!
Nadine has grown into a very gentle, non-assuming donkey {unless there is food involved!}. She walked along with Walter in the Needles Christmas Parade as Mrs. Santa Claus and was a ROCKSTAR! And lately, she has become the watchdonk to Lil Al Capone, out newest addition. She takes the job seriously and is amazing when on duty! Thanks Naders – We love you!
