Olive, the Big Brown Donkey. And what a mischievous donkey she is!
She joined us in late July, 2020 after we were asked to take her from a friend. Her previous owner could no longer take care of her and we were more than happy to take her on. She came to us very ill and underweight.
After a few weeks of attempting to feed her and nurse her back to health, we rushed her to Desert Pines Equine in North Las Vegas where it was discovered that she had 40 lbs of impacted manure stuck in her intestines. She required emergency surgery. We had a donor pay for the entire surgery and hospital stay with no hesitation. We call her Angel.
Olive returned to our home and had to be separated from Sedona and Scruffy as she healed. Once she was able to be integrated with the two girls full time, they welcomed Olive with open hooves.
After her stay in the hospital, a special diet was formulated by the vet and fed to her each day to so that she could gain weight. Olive went from a small, skinny brown donkey to a very tall, big brown donkey. She still enjoys her “special” bowl of food in the mornings to maintain her weight and vitamins.
Olive is such a loving donkey and insists on helping with chores if you’ll let her. Or even if you don’t! The shovel goes missing, the wheelbarrow is upended…The Olive way of helping! You can’t take your eyes off of her as she gets into everything but her heart is pure gold!
